About the Rise Mentoring Programme
Our award-winning Rise Mentoring Programme is a coveted six month programme to support women working in, or aspiring to work in the media technology sector.
The 2024 Mentoring Programme sees a variety of experienced broadcast media technology sector industry leaders, at a diversity of levels of seniority, ready to offer expertise, knowledge and guidance to our female Mentees.

Laura Aghajanian
Laura is a passionate sales professional with over 16 years experience across various industries including media and marketing, live events, tech, telco and the music industry. This experience has been supported with 9 years in marketing and the completion of a Masters of Marketing at the University of Technology.
Currently, Laura works as the Business Development Manager for Corporate Subscriptions at Nine, where I work with corporate clients to provide subscriptions to our publications such as The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age as well as other mastheads.

I'm Rachel Jedwood, the Production Manager at the National Rugby League based out of Sydney Australia. I am passionate about the sports industry and since starting in this role back in July 2021, my interest and passion in the broadcast/production sector has increased. Laura Hunt
Laura Hunt is a sound artist/ experimental producer and production technician based in Eora, Sydney.
Hunt's career in tech began in punk bands learning how to play synthesizers on stage and soldering microphones that could amplify water. Her passion led to her to community radio where she worked as a content producer for 2SER before moving to FBi as Music Producer for weekly arts and culture program Canvas.
Hunt worked as an Audio Operator doing MCR and live studio panel operation at SBS Radio before landing a role at The Sydney Opera House as a Production Technician.

Christine Kim
With over 15 years of software development and testing experience, I am a senior quality assurance engineer. I have a 6 Sigma Green Belt certification and an ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level credential, demonstrating my commitment to quality and professionalism in the software testing field.
As a senior QA engineer, I design and execute test strategies, plans, and cases for multi-platform streaming applications, using both manual and automated testing tools and frameworks. I have extensive knowledge of ad, streaming, and video analytics, and I use various debugging tools to identify and resolve issues.

Juliet Payne
Juliet, a newcomer to the Broadcast industry, serves as a Technology Support Engineer in radio, managing both IT and Broadcast responsibilities.
Despite an unconventional start at Yellow Pages post-Music studies, she swiftly transitioned into Technology Support Analyst roles, accumulating a decade of experience.
The pandemic prompted Juliet to reassess her goals, leading to a remarkable opportunity with the Australian Olympic Committee during the Tokyo/Beijing games. Here, she discovered a newfound passion for Broadcast technologies, after leading an 8-week in-house streaming entertainment program for athletes during quarantine. Now, having come full circle, Juliet is excited to merge her passions for music and tech within the radio and enhance her knowledge in broadcasting.

It brings me great joy to work in a highly functional team, as I learn something new and interesting from my colleagues every single day. In my current role, I have really tried to focus on developing my leadership skills, with an emphasis on empowering team members to make their own decisions. I strive to take a strategic approach to any challenge, and pay attention to detail to ensure business continuity across critical systems and initiatives.

Monica Forlano
Monica Forlano is the Head of AFL Studios which is the production and in-house creative agency of the Australian Football League. Monica has over 20 years of media industry experience ranging from managing international operations of cable television in Europe, to leading broadcast channels and content production departments in Australia. Her key career achievements include developing marketing and business transformation plans around media creation and distribution, successful launch campaigns for major television programs and sports documentary production. Monica is also the Chair of Endometriosis Australia, the preeminent peak body for endometriosis and the largest non-government funder of research into this disease suffered by an estimated 830,000 Australians.

Tanya Rai
Tanya has worked in the broadcast and entertainment industry for over 15 years with a range of experience in marketing, events, project/account management and advocating diversity. She has worked with the BBC, Cheltenham Literature and Jazz Festivals, International Broadcasting Convention, Gritty Talent, British Arrows, Wildscreen and Icon Films. She also worked for Sundog Media Toolkit, managing projects to create automated cloud native tools for the versioning of packaged media (DCP & IMF) and building relationships with leading Hollywood Studios and UK broadcasters and as Marketing and Communications Manager at Pebble, who deliver automation, playout and management solutions for the broadcast community. Tanya currently works for Telstra Broadcast Services (TBS) as Marketing Manager to market their broadcast end to end solutions including a global media network, cloud-based media production, world-class satellite services and managed production and playout services. Tanya has hosted and produced many of the episodes featured in the ‘Rise In Conversation With’ webinar series, interviewing women in senior leadership roles from ITV, The Financial Times and the BBC. She also launched her own podcast in 2020, where she talks to diverse guests who work in the broadcast and creative industries about their top three ways of 'Keeping It Real'.

Nina Walsh
Nina Walsh is the Head of Business Development, APJ & Americas for Media & Entertainment at AWS. She joined AWS in 2020 to lead M&E strategy for the region and is a global leader for Content Production, with over a decade of experience in visual effects (VFX) and animation. Prior to AWS Nina held senior leadership roles in business operations, strategy, commercial, creative, and technology. She led large-scale digital transformation and strategic growth programs for Tier 1 Film and Television production studios in the US, Canada, and Australia. Nina is an industry leader in her field, drawing from more than 18 years in M&E, spanning broadcast, radio, sports, and content production. She enjoys public speaking and presents regularly at global industry events. Nina has held production, technology, and leadership roles across some familiar industry brands including: Fox Sports, AFL, NHL, MLS, Bell Media, Deluxe, Company 3/Method, Encore Post & VFX, and Animal Logic. She is a passionate mentor and people leader who enjoys building inclusive and high-performing teams.
Nina holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sydney, and is a member of industry association, the Visual Effects Society (VES).

Will Munkara-Kerr
Will Munkara-Kerr is the Enterprise Sales Manager for Australia and New Zealand at Avid. After beginning his career in the Media Technology sector as an Avid Enterprise Support role looking after Australian and New Zealand broadcasters and post production facilities, he spent the best part of a decade working in the wider Asia-Pacific region. Two years with Avid's Bid Management Team in Singapore was followed by six years in Hong Kong with EVS, where he started as a Technical Specialist before moving into a Sales Management role covering - at varying points - regions from India and Bangladesh; across to Japan and Korea; down to Australia and New Zealand; and everywhere in-between. He returned to Australia in 2016 as Technical Director for APAC with Ericsson Broadcast and Media Services, prior to running the Oceania business for French compression vendor Ateme. He rejoined Avid in 2022 to manage an awesome sales team and is based in Sydney.

Anna Lockwood
Anna is an experienced media industry executive specialising in broadcasting and sports. She started her career as a journalist and documentary film producer with a focus on natural history and wildlife programming. After ten years working in the wild she moved from India to London to join the media technology business as a consultant. Anna has since had global leadership roles across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. She currently works at Telstra at the convergence of the traditional broadcast industry and leading edge telecommunications and digital platforms. In addition to her role at Telstra, Anna represents Telstra as a Director on the IABM (International Association of Broadcast Manufacturers) Board, and is an Advisory Board Member and Mentor at RISE, a group for women in broadcast. She brings her interests in innovation, sports, and women in technology to her board and industry engagement.

Mike Whittaker
Mike has been fortunate to have an international career in media. Starting as a sound engineer in BBC World Service he had held roles in strategy, operations and technology in the UK, Middle East and Asia leading transformation, technology and operational decliners and and award-winning teams.
Mike is a Trustee and Rose Bruford performing and technical arts College and a member od the IBC Council.

I am a television broadcast specialist and technical operations management expert with over 25 years of industry knowledge and experience. Worked for Ch7, Ch9, Ch10, ABC, Fox Sports, SBS & NITV. Major projects worked on are Olympics, AFL, Cricket, Light Entertainment & Reality Shows amongst many others.

Tanya Kelly
Tanya is a highly experienced professional in the broadcast and media industry, having over a decade of experience at the senior management level. She began her career in London's Soho, working with major film distribution companies. Her operational roles included being a videotape operator, editor, and telecine colourist, where she worked on new documentaries and restored old films. Moving up, she joined the ABC in Australia, utilizing her skills for colour grading and restoration in their digital project. Later, she became Head of Studio Operations at Fox Sports, managing and developing the studio crew and facilities teams and facilitating their move to a new location while keeping broadcasting uninterrupted. In 2016, she founded her own consultancy, specializing in project management and technology solutions for the broadcast and media sector. She worked with numerous broadcasters and vendors, integrating resource management systems for automation and self-provisioning. Tanya's strong relationship with ScheduALL led to a partnership with Xytech in 2021. She helped deliver the Xytech Media Operations Platform to Australia and New Zealand, improving efficiency for large broadcasters and is now Xytech’s Managing Director in APAC. With an educational background in Psychology and English Language and Literature, Tanya is an innovative and collaborative leader. She excels at driving successful transformation projects, understanding processes, and engaging stakeholders for effective change. Her expertise in scheduling systems and workflows and her prioritisation of training and engagement ensures optimal technology utilization and smooth business operations.

Elaine Beckett
Elaine is Trackdown's General Manager and recognised Post Production Supervisor specialising in Audio Post and Music.
As one of Australia's only Score Coordinators, her impressive list of credits includes "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga", Marvel's "Echo" and "What If...?", "World of Warcraft: Dragonflight", “Three Thousand Years of Longing”, “Mortal Kombat”, “Peter Rabbit”, “LEGO Ninjago”, “The LEGO Batman Movie”, “Gods of Egypt”, “The LEGO Movie”, “The Water Diviner”, “Happy Feet 2”, “The Railway Man” and “Tomorrow When The War Began”.
She has worked as a Post Production Supervisor on projects such as “Sally Bollywood” Seasons 1 and 2, “Lah Lah's Adventures” and “Forbidden Ground”, and as Music Supervisor on projects such as "C.A.U.G.H.T", "Better Watch Out", "Dive Club", and "One Perfect Match".
Recently, Elaine has taken on some production roles as well. She produced “Tales of Aluna”, an animated kids series based on a concept from the famous singer/song-writer Donovan, and the short film “For The Girl In The Coffee Shop”. Elaine was the Executive Producer for the animated television series “Nate Is Late” and for the feature film “Back of the Net”.

Max Dabrowski
I have a genuine passion for all things media technology. This passion started when I took up photography as a teenager and later grew whilst spent time in recording studios drumming in bands. After studding a degree in Sound and Video Technology I started working in TV as a MCR Operator. 10 years later I now work as part of a small team designing, building, testing and deploying bespoke TV transmission systems for complex sporting events. These systems get linear content from stadiums to millions of eyeballs around the world.

Michelle Ng
Michelle has 20+ years of global delivery experience starting with an engineering degree and career in management consulting in the UK and Australia delivering Media projects such as digital TV, IPTV provisioning, streaming OTT video and media cloud projects. Michelle has been at AWS for close to 5 years working as a Delivery Practice Manager in the Professional Services team helping Public Sector and Commercial customers with their cloud transformation journey. She is an empathic leader and champion of inclusion, diversity and equity initiatives in the workplace.

Julien Pinchon
Julien is a Snr Customer Solutions Manager at AWS where he helps customers accelerate their Cloud Adoption journey. He has over 17 years of international experience in the Media and Entertainment industry. Prior to joining AWS, he spent 13 years at Ericsson where he held technical, delivery and leadership roles. Julien has a Bachelor of Science in Media Technology from Southampton Solent University in the UK.

Pip Warren
Pip Warren's career in broadcasting has spanned many countries and cultures but has focused predominantly on international News and Current Affairs television coverage. Born in England where she was an apprentice Video Editor and then a Director for a London production company, followed by Sky TV (UK), and then moved to Hong Kong to join Star TV as their News Operations Manager, and as part of the team to set up Star News India. Pip moved to Australia to take up a senior managerial position with the ABC. Pip now lives in Melbourne, is an Australian citizen and works for Avid, a broadcast hardware, software, and solutions provider, headquartered in the USA, as a Broadcast Consultant managing and delivering project-based solutions and services worldwide. Pip is still very much enjoying what she does and the company of likeminded professionals. She's motivated by innovation, the rush of creating TV, and the satisfaction of assisting with numerous fantastic projects. Pip is a Life Member of the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club, and a member of the Brighton Yacht Club, a PADI – Dive Master and is also a qualified PRINCE2® Production Manager Practitioner. If there’s time, Pip chooses to travel, sail, scuba dive, cycle, swim, eat out or cook at home, and as many new things that she can find to try.

Manda Hatter
Manda is a passionate Television industry professional who started over 38 years ago as one of the first female camera operators in Australia and since then has worked across all facets of TV including various Production & Operational roles and has spent the last 23 years in Senior Leadership.
Manda’s main focus over the past few years has been building values based collaborative teams and leading major transformation projects which included developing and implementing technical systems, organisational restructuring, streamlining processes and productivity improvements. Manda’s strengths lie in building a motivated and committed team with 360 degree collaboration as a key element.
A proven leader of large and complex teams, Manda has a focus on building sustainable change in the culture of the organisations she works for. Manda has a strong focus on Diversity and Inclusion and believes in bringing your whole self to work.
Jan 2017, Manda moved to the ABC as Head of Operations and quickly became the LGBTQIA+ Champion for the ABC. Manda founded, and Chaired ABC Pride from 2017 to 2023 when she handed over the role
to two Co-Chairs to elevate their vision for ABC Pride. In 2018 the ABC entered the AWEI Awards (Australian Workplace Equality Index) for the first time.
Manda led ABC Pride to it’s history making inaugural participation in the Mardi Gras parade in 2019 and was incredibly proud of her team at ABC Pride whose work throughout the past 5 years saw the ABC to receiving three awards both at the AWEI 2021 & AWEI 2022 events. Most improved employer (2021), Gold employer (2021 & 2022), Best External Media (2021 & 2022) and CEO of the Year (2022). Manda also worked with Executives and Senior Leadership to ensure the Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride events across 2021 – 2024 came home to the ABC as host broadcaster.
Outside of her leadership role in television, Manda has been involved in the LGBTQIA+ community since returning from the US in 1997. She held the roles of Secretary and Ride Leader with Dykes on Bikes before becoming President for the term 2014 – 2016.
During her time at the ABC, Manda has been involved in several committee’s including being a Mentor both for the ABC and for ‘Rise Women in Broadcast’ (where she is also on the board); on the Sustainability Committee and Modern Slavery Sub-committee; Diversity Advocates Network and is a Peer Supporter.

• 2015 saw Dykes on Bikes receive an Honour
Award for best “Community Organisation”.
• Manda became a Board member of ACON where she served from July 2016 to January 2018.
• The year 2018 saw two achievements for Manda who was honoured to be included in them both:
- Featured in a photographic book to record the 40 years of Mardi Gras titled “Telling Tales”
- And was announced as one of Deloitte's 50 Outstanding LGBTI Leaders of 2018
