Where and when the Rise Up Academy Summer School is taking place
There are two sessions for different age groups – both taking place at the Global Academy in Hayes, Middlesex. The two session dates are:
- 2-3 August. This session is exclusively for students who are currently in years 7-9. Parents/care givers can click here to register their child or children
- 4-5 August, This session is exclusively for students who are currently in years 10-13. Parents/care givers can click here to register their child or children.
About this event
The Rise Up Academy Summer School is perfect for any student who is curious about how the FA Cup Final is broadcast to your screen, why so many cameras are needed at an event like Glastonbury, or who is considering a career in the media or in new tech such as virtual reality, but doesn’t know where to start.
It offers a fantastic opportunity to get hands-on experience of working in media technology. and learn about all of the different steps that are needed to get great content onto your TV, tablet or phone, as well as highlighting the possible career opportunities across new technologies such as virtual reality.
This experience will include:
- Building a TV studio and creating a TV show;
- Exploring an Outside Broadcast (OB) Truck;
- Creating eye catching graphics;
- Learning more about post production and getting hands-on editing video content;
- Finding out more about what virtual production is;
- Exploring cloud technology with Amazon Web Services.

Who can attend & what’s included
The Rise Up Academy Summer School is free to attend and we welcome all young people in school years 7-13 inclusive, as of July 2022.
We cannot cover travel/accommodation costs, however please note that lunch and refreshments throughout the day are provided.

About the Rise Up Academy
The Rise Up Academy is an outreach programme delivering hands-on broadcast engineering and technical workshops to primary and secondary school children aged 9 through to 18 years old.
Its intention is to inspire, educate and inform children and young adults about the pathways and career opportunities available to them within the broadcast technology industry.
