Job Description -  Systems Specialist

Reporting to:  Senior Systems Specialist PLS 

Role Overview   

Premier League Studios are looking for an experienced Systems Specialist (Broadcast) to work in the Applications and Automation team at their new cutting-edge production facility in West London.

The Systems Specialist will report to the Senior Systems Specialist and work alongside the other Specialists, will develop, support and refine applications for live, post-production and playout platforms.  

As a key member of the team responsible for technology across the business - including automation, orchestration, NRCS, scheduling, and MAM systems — you will ensure that platforms, integrations, and development efforts are scalable, optimised, and aligned with strategic and operational objectives. You’ll contribute to complex broadcast projects and help drive innovation using industry-leading tools including, Cerebrum, Qibb and data driven automation software.

We are responsible for organising the competition, managing broadcast and commercial rights, overseeing youth development frameworks, protecting intellectual property, and delivering impactful community and international programmes. Our teams work closely with Clubs, governing bodies, and other leagues to ensure alignment and excellence across all areas.

Premier League Studios is based in a custom-built, 73,000 sq ft production facility at One Olympia, West London. From here, we deliver 6,000+ hours of content per season to over 180 broadcasters globally, covering all 380 Premier League matches.

Key Responsibilites 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support the technology and workflows for applications for core facility operations.
  • Support and refine system architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance.
  • Understanding of production requirements for MAM, Scheduling and NRCSsystems.
  • Analyse and resolve critical system failures or performance issues.
  • Generate detailed documentation including diagrams, configuration documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Enhance workflow efficiency, reduce operational risk, and support evolving content delivery models.
  • Develop and deploy logging, monitoring and alerting systems
  • Work with the team to manage upgrades, migrations, and new implementations.
  • Provide support and escalation for automation engineers, systems engineers, and technical operators.
  • Work with the Senior Systems Specialist, engineering and operations to develop future technology services.
  • Assist in delivering user training
  • Adhere to the health and safety policies and occupational health practices
  • Work with colleagues in response to service impacting issues.

Required Skills and Experience 

Technical 

  • Proficient in systems scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Familiarity with SaaS models and Kubernetes deployment
  • Familiarity with JSON, SOAP and REST APIs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience.

Ability to demonstrate experience and skills in several of the following technologies:

    • EVS Cerebrum
    • EVS media processing services
    • Mimir MAM
    • SAGA NRCS
    • Xytech scheduling system
    • Arista CVP
    • Qibb automation tools
    • Atlassian JIRA ITSM
    • Makalu Playout systems

Experience:

  • Proven experience working in a similar role in a broadcast environment
  • Understanding of video/audio standards (SDI, IP video, compression formats, etc.).
  • Experience implementing Broadcast upgrades and refreshes
  • Familiarity with Dev Ops and CI/CD industry practices as well ITIL framework & ITSM would be beneficial
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing APIs, along with related technologies and frameworks, using SOAP and REST
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools
  • 2+ years of experience working with broadcast automation systems.
