Website Wes Curtis/Edge Hill Players
This is an opportunity for someone who would like to get some practical experience of working on all aspects of live sound for a stage production.
Edge Hill Players is a Wimbledon-based amateur drama group who produce a musical and a pantomime each year. Everyone involved is very friendly and they care very much about making the productions the best they can be. They perform to enthusiastic audiences of about 350 people.
This year’s musical is Lionel Bart’s ‘Oliver!’, with evening performances on September 14th, 15th & 16th.
22 wireless head microphones will be used to lift voices to match the live orchestra and much of the work will involve managing the deployment of the headsets and transmitters to the cast. There is no installed sound system, so set-up, checks and take-down of all the equipment will also be an important part of the work.
I’m looking for someone to work alongside me to assist with the sound for this production. You don’t need any prior experience but an appreciation of the importance of sound engineering for live productions will help you to navigate the technology and practical work. Although this is an amateur enterprise, the production values are high and enthusiasm, energy and a willingness to learn are essential!
Rehearsals and performances take place in the Wimbledon area (10-15 mins walk from Wimbledon station). You need to be available on the following dates & times:
- September 3rd, 10:00-19:00 (Full run). Not essential but this will give you the chance to familiarise yourself with the set-up and people!
September 10th, 10:00-19:00 (Tech run) - September 12th, 16:00-22:00 (Dress Rehearsal)
- September 14th, 16:00-22:00 (Show #1)
- September 15th, 16:00-22:00 (Show #2)
- September 16th, 16:00-22:00 (Show #3)
I’m sorry that you can’t be paid (although it might be possible to cover reasonable expenses) but you’ll have fun and all my knowledge & experience is available to you free of charge! I’m one of the Rise Up Academy Champions and you might have met me at a studio build workshop or the summer school.
If you have an interest in live sound and would like to get some real-world experience in a positive and friendly environment, please get in touch.
