About the Role
Timeline are looking to train a Graduate Sound Engineer working predominantly within our Ealing Studios and Broadcast Centre operations in all areas of sound engineering. This is with a view to move into operations within Ealing and also Outside Broadcast operations after an initial 12 month period.
This a two-year development programme giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop practical skills for an exciting and rewarding career in Sound Engineering. As a Graduate Sound Engineer, you can expect to put the theory you have learnt at university into practice within an innovative organisation that will put you at the forefront of new and exciting developments in broadcast technology and prepare you for long-term career.

Learning and developing your skills whilst participating in our Graduate Programme will also involve the following:
· Ensure that equipment is checked and prepared for upcoming jobs
· After the job, ensure that equipment is stored or returned as applicable, following up any faults or issues
· Assist in all sound operations for example: setting up radio mic systems, plugging talkback equipment
· Work under the support of the Sound Guarantee Engineers to understand technical requirements and help where possible in preparation for all upcoming projects
· Be responsible for keeping the control rooms, studios and equipment stores tidy
· Ensure all sound equipment is checked in and out before and after every job
· Carry out basic trouble shooting and fault fixing on studio systems
· Develop skills and knowledge within the broadcast industry, keep abreast of technological advancements and seek training in areas where further knowledge is required
· In-depth knowledge of different types of microphones, cabling and standards used within the broadcast industry
· Basic knowledge of Intercom and talkback equipment
· Demonstrate a methodical approach to fault-finding
· A general knowledge of broadcast engineering, including power supply systems, cameras, intercom, file-based media systems and RF technologies
· Show an appreciation of technical, artistic, and practical problems of other craft disciplines, especially lighting, cameras, and post-production
· Demonstrate an understanding of technical planning sheets distributed by technical managers
· Demonstrate commitment to personal training and development
You will hit the ground running, working directly alongside our skilled engineers, getting hands-on experience on projects in studios and outside broadcasts for our major broadcast clients. After a full induction, we will also offer you a mix of internal and external training, and you will have access to your own mentor to support your career development.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
· Good knowledge of sound equipment in use at Timeline (Calrec, Riedel) and in the industry generally
· Able to work flexibly across all aspects of the Timeline business, assisting other team members. Where necessary, you may be required to cover other roles
· Good knowledge of basic sound engineering, and of the latest advancements in the field
· Fault finding and logical problem solving
· Able to solder and use a range of tools to repair cables and electronic equipment
· Willing to work within all Timeline policies, working practices and Health and Safety guidelines. Follow any applicable legislation, and customer working practices
· Self-motivated and able to establish effective working relationships with other members of Timeline and production team
· An awareness of the need to build and retain confidence of customers, ensuring a ongoing business relationship
· Show a flexible approach to the job and adapt to last minute changes to the operational requirements of Timeline and the customer
· Due the unpredictable nature of incoming work there is a need to be contactable and available at short notice on off duty days
· A high level of computer literacy and ability to operate in a wide range of technical, operational & business environments. In particular, IP based media networking systems (Dante, AES67)
· Clean UK driving licence
Health & Safety Responsibilities
· To undertake all duties and activities in accordance with current Timeline Health and Safety Guidance
· Good basic understanding of Electricity at Work safety regulations
Previous experience of an operational role in Broadcasting is desirable.
Please note that this is a shift-based role and involves unsociable hours and weekend work.
