Workshop Technician

Website Mission Digital

Mission is a major provider of cutting-edge on set solutions for the motion picture industry. Our aim is to provide the finest bespoke video playback, DIT and data management systems to serve both the creativity of the cinematographer and director, as well as to maintain maximum efficiency throughout the production pipeline. Mission has provided services to studio features produced by the likes of Universal, Netflix and Amazon, to name but a few.

As we are growing and taking on more opportunities, we are looking for a new member to join our Field Solutions team. The role is an excellent opportunity for a person with a keen interest in the technical side of the film and TV industry who is looking to grow their knowledge and experience.

This role will be based at our Garden Studios office, London, NW10.

Whilst we are ideally looking for someone with some experience in the field, we are always keen to hear from anyone who believes that they may have relevant complimentary skills.

We expect the role to include the following daily responsibilities:

  • Physical management of rental assets – checking items in and out of the facility
  • Prepping a range of Mission kit, including DIT, video playback and data management rigs
  • Working with technicians to implement customisation as required
  • Providing technical support and assistance to technicians
  • Assisting with day-to-day running of our in-house systems
  • Collaborating with all teams within Mission to ensure the smooth running of projects
  • Carrying out research and testing of new hardware and software tools
  • Setting up and/or assisting in demonstrations of kit for technicians, in-house staff and clients
  • Checking kit, reporting missing and damaged kit and following up with relevant parties

This role is primarily technical, and requires a good aptitude for computers. Knowledge of specific software used within the film industry is advantageous, and being thorough and precise is essential.

We do not necessarily expect candidates to have experience in all areas of the role already, and training will be provided as appropriate. Listed below are some skills/areas of knowledge that would be advantageous for an applicant to have:

  • Self-motivated and organised with excellent communication skills
  • Able to work to deadlines, demonstrating strong time management skills
  • Technical knowledge of video/power cables standards
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including electrical wiring and soldering
  • Experience with workshop power tools
  • Knowledge of modern cinema cameras formats, resolutions and capture methods
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills: documents, spreadsheets, presentations
  • Knowledge or interest in 3D printing and modelling

Mission aims to be an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to ensure that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race. In addition we are keen to increase diversity at every level of our organisation, in order to better reflect both our client base and the communities we serve. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates as BAME people are currently under-represented within the film and TV industry.

In return, you’ll get to work with a dedicated and friendly team, and be involved in some of the most exciting digital film projects currently being shot both here in the UK and abroad.

As well as offering our team excellent rates of pay, at Mission we love to help people grow and expand their roles, and we’re happy to support you in achieving your career ambitions. If you’re prepared to work hard, we’ll take good care of you too. At Mission we operate on a 35hr working week.
